Tesla’s Attic
Tesla’s Attic was an eye opening novel written by Neal Shusterman and Eric Elfman. There were many dangerous adventures and many thrilling twists. This book involved a boy named Nick Slate who lost his mom in a fire at his old home that was in Tampa Bay, Florida and was forced to move to Colorado Springs. He was living with his brother and father in a dirty house that was passed on in his family for years. Soon he met some friends from school and they helped him find these strange items in his attic. The friends looked deeper into the inventions meaning and figured out that Nick’s attic was a magnetic field and the initials that were on all the inventions meant that Nikola Tesla invented them. Soon the Accelerati, which was a group of scientists and inventors, got involved with the situation. From here on in, the book told us how the friends had to gather up all of the items from Nick’s attic that were sold from the garage sale he had and kept them out of the hands of the Accelerati.
I enjoyed how the author went deep into detail about many of the important items including Nikola Tesla and his inventions . I did not know who Nikola Tesla was until I read and finished this book. I understood the many things that were in the novel very clearly including the Accelerati, Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. I also liked the unexpected turns and the adventurous tasks that Nick and his friends had to take to survive.
I would change a few things in the book. I would change the people that died or disappeared. Some people in Nick’s life that he really liked died or he lost them forever. For example, Nicks mom and his best friend Vince. His mom as I mentioned died in a fire at his old home and she has been on Nick’s mind for the whole book. Vince was Nick’s best friend and was always there for him. Vince died by bioelectric pulse from a TV and the TV’s remote. I understand they live in Colorado Springs because of his mom dying and the fire in their old house causing them to move. However he lost his mom and his best friend and it was a very sad part of the story.
I would compare this book with Percy Jackson And The Sea Of Monsters which I have also recently read. These books were similar because of the idea that a group of friends were trying to save their lives by sacrificing many of their belongings and themselves. The main characters in both books were boys that were leading their own group of friends.
I would recommend this book to anybody who is interested in science-fiction that is also based on facts in real science. I would also recommend this book to anybody who really enjoys mysteries. This book would be great for anybody that likes multiple books in a series or trilogy, because if you end a book wanting to see what happens, you could figure it out in the next book of the series. For anybody that is interested in reading the next book, it is called Edison’s Alley.
